Welcome and thank you so much for finding us. In the information below it will describe where the car is located and how to pick up and return your Turo car at the Kona airport.

We do use apple AirTags in the cars to keep track of them. Unfortunately they aren't very reliable so it's important for everyone to respect airport parking rules and return the car in the authorized area where you found it.

Please print out your Turo car share agreement/insurance. Go to the app, then to the help section, then print out your "car share agreement" you will need this on your person if you get pulled over in the car by police.

In the picture below notice where it says EXIT. That is the Northern most part of the airport. If you walk toward Maui you will be headed North. Go to the furthest North you can go at the airport and you will find Southwest Arrivals blue gate sign. Go to that crosswalk and walk all the way to the very back of the lot. That is where your car is located

In the video link below you'll see a description of where we park your car. Check it out it's super easy and the walk is about a football field long. https://youtu.be/X5yOnn5i9kE

This video link shows us walking to the car from the middle of the airport. It's a fun video set to music. https://youtu.be/Ozvb4dKME58

The car will be:

  • Unlocked and the key and parking ticket will be inside the car on the drivers side floor in a lockbox.

  • Located next to the crosswalk path that takes you to "additional parking" as described in the video link above and the pictures below.

  • Parked in a self-service lot known as "Additional Parking" so keep the parking ticket handy that you found in the lockbox so you can exit the parking lot.

  • The Parking Ticket will be In the lockbox use it to exit the airport parking lot. In order to get you the car at the airport we use a contactless Airport Pickup and drop off. This involves parking fees. Guest is responsible for their share of these fees and they are not reimbursable (neither host nor Turo will reimburse parking fees). Parking will not exceed $30.00. It is the only way we can get you the car at the airport without a delivery charge. We pay for the return parking and you are responsible for pickup.

Look for this gate.

Look for this gate sign NOTE "Arrivals" take this crosswalk path all the way back to parking

Look for this sign and then turn around and take that crosswalk all the way to the very back lot. The back lot is called "Additional Parking."

Use the crosswalk at this sign to go to the car
Look for this sign then turn around and use the crosswalk behind you it will take you to additional parking

You will see these signs all the way back to the car

You will see these signs along the entire crosswalk path. The car will be right next to this path way in the back lot

About the parking lot "additional parking" and how to exit the lot.

Once you find the car, drive it back towards the airport. The exit gates are on the right hand side. There will be a gate that is in the back where you found the car. That is for employees and you won't be able to exit there. Go back towards the airport those are the gates you want.

  1. Place the parking ticket that you found in the lockbox in the self serve kiosk at the parking exit (which is back towards the airport) and pay the fee to exit. We try and keep parking to 24 hours but we are not responsible for parking charges over 24 hours due to flight or schedule changes.

  2. The parking lot is dark at night. If you are arriving in the evening it's a good idea to really understand where the car is located. Please look at all available resources of the airport to get a visual of where the car is located. Also, bring a small flashlight or know how to use your iPhone light so that you can see the combo on the lockbox and read the license plate of the car.

  3. Sometimes the additional parking is full. If we suspect that there will be a full parking lot when you arrive we will park your car on PAOO Street. It is the street directly behind additional parking. We will let you know in Turo messaging if we do this. If you pick up your car on PAOO Street please return your car on PAOO Street where you found it. If you pick up in additional parking please return to additional parking. Please don't make us play hide and seek with your car. Return car where you found it. Please be mindful not to park illegally. You are responsible for parking tickets and towing for illegally parked cars.

That's how you find the car and how to exit "additional parking." Please keep reading to learn about both the airport and Turo rules and how to get the lockbox code.

We utilize Turo contactless pickup and drop off. This is just a low tech (lockbox) way for you to pickup and return the car without meeting us in person. In order for us to comply with Turo rules we need two photos from you. Once we get these two photos we can give you the lockbox code. And you can do this right now.

1. A close up picture of your Drivers License

2. A picture of you and your DL held up to your face ( a drivers license selfie).

This is how you upload those photos to the TURO APP:

a. Go to the details section in the Turo app.

b. Scroll down to trip photos and click "view and add" link

c. select your phone camera and then take a selfie with your face near your drivers license and another one of a close up of your Drivers License. When you do this it will upload those pictures automatically to the trip and your done. You can do this at anytime. When you let us know you've done this we'll send you the lockbox code.

List of items to remember:

  1. Guests are solely Responsible for parking charges. Neither Host nor Turo will reimburse you for this expense. It is your sole responsibility to pay for parking at the airport. We hate the extra charges too because we pay them when you return the car. It's just the system that is most convenient for everyone and we try to contain it to $30.00 at all times.

  2. The airport does not allow pickups and drop offs at the gates/curbside. We only provide contactless pickup and return/drop off in additional parking.

  3. Airport prohibits picture taking and cleaning cars. Please don’t take pictures of the car or clean the car at the airport. You can get cited for doing business on airport property.

  4. Exit from the "additional parking" lot is towards the airport and is self-serve. Use the parking ticket you found in the lockbox to exit from parking.

  5. Parking is only allowed in "Additional Parking" Airport police issue tickets to turo cars in the front parking lot directly across from the airport gates and they are $50.00. Please Return the car to the same parking lot and location that you picked it up with all the doors unlocked and key and parking ticket in the lockbox to avoid any parking tickets or additional fines.

  6. Turo car cleaning policy for guests https://help.turo.com/cleaning-and-disinfection-policy-or-guests-rkLCVVeVq

  7. Car should be returned in the same condition received.

  8. Please remember to leave me the parking ticket in the lockbox when you return the car, so that I can get it out of additional parking.

  9. Lost parking tickets are $30.00 and are charged against your Turo account if you forget to leave the parking ticket for me to exit.

Congratulations: We hope you have a better understanding of the airport and Turo rules. Hopefully you have watched the videos, understand Turo and the Kona Airports basic rules, and know how to pickup and return the car (in the same place and condition you received it).

If you have any additional questions feel free to reach out to Lauren or Chad and we'll be happy to help.

Items to remember:

  1. We use apple AirTags. We only use these to locate cars at the airport, not to track you. If you get an AirTag message you can disable it in your “findmy app” go to apple AirTag and disable alerts. But we still need you to return the car where you found it and as close to the exact spot you picked it up along the crosswalk path. It is incredible difficult to find the car in these parking lots even with Apple Airtags. So please help us and the next guest and park where you found the car.

  2. Some Kona airport police do not like Turo. Some officers accept Turo while others still harass guests. The car rental companies don’t want Turo at the airport it takes away from their business. So to avoid confrontation please do all Turo business off airport property.

  3. Please return the car where you picked it up. Additional parking or PAOO street are the only acceptable locations.

  4. The airport police are towing turo cars parked in the front parking lot across from the airport gates and citing them as well. To avoid penalties simply return the car where you picked it up. If you return the car to the parking lot directly across from the airport gates you will receive a $50 ticket and possibly get the car towed. This can add up to more than $500.00. So please return the car where you picked it up.

  5. No photos at the airport. Please take all photos of the car off airport property. This is a condition of using airport parking lots (check the car in on the turo app at your hotel or air bnb).

  6. You don’t need to and shouldn’t use the Turo app to check in the car at the airport. The airport police consider this as doing business on airport property without a permit and you could get cited if the wrong policeman catches you.

  7. We comply with the rules of other airports across the country. We’ve been at this a fair amount of time, if you read other airport pickup and drop off instructions regarding Turo (here you go) https://help.turo.com/en_us/airport-delivery-information-or-guests-Hky_V4l4q You'll see we have similar rules. It’s totally okay to just get in the car and go. You can check in the car on the Turo app later when your far far away from the airport. You won't get in trouble that way.

  8. I’m simply being extra careful for you that’s all; we’ve been told that if you’re caught taking pictures at the airport you could be cited for transacting business without a permit. I don’t want anyone hassled and bothered before their trip even starts. This advice is purely so we can all enjoy convenient contactless pickup without confrontation. You may be thinking just meet me at the gate. Well, airport police are giving citations for meeting at gates/curbside. They consider this doing business on airport property. Our workaround for airport delivery is contactless pickup and drop off in the back parking lot or on PAOO street

  9. If you absolutely must take pictures of vehicles at the airport take them of a strangers car, just not the one you’re about to get in:)

  10. Protect yourself and do all Turo business off airport property. If you follow that simple rule it will be seamless for you.

In the next section you'll find pictures of where the car is located, airport signs, crosswalk pictures, and much much more. For those that would like more information. I have written out the walking directions to the car and video companion links.

Written directions for finding the car

Finding the car is easy you just have to start at the correct crosswalk. Pay special attention and go to the very beginning of the airport. There are two southwest gates

  1. The Southwest arrivals gate is the very first gate at the airport and the crosswalk that you want to take to the back parking lot to find the car.

  2. Do not start at the southwest departures gate it will not take you to the car and you will get confused

Pay special attention to the sign that says “lobby 2” baggage claim A. Use that crosswalk and go straight back to the very last parking lot. The car is along that path/crosswalk.

Southwest Arrivals Sign

“lobby 2” baggage claim A Sign

No parking signs you'll see along the pathway to the car

Notice where the start of the airport is and the crosswalk. It's the southwest arrivals gate sign not the southwest departures gate sign.

If we have a full parking lot we will park your car on PAOO street. Please return car to PAOO street if you pick up from PAOO St.

Car Return:

Return car in the same parking lot and area that you picked it up: all doors unlocked, parking ticket and key in lockbox. We are not allowed to park in any other parking lot. So it is imperative that you drop in the same location that you picked it up.

When you return the car look for the sign that says “Additional Parking”. It will be on your right hand side as you enter the airport round about. Tap on picture below to scroll through photos
